Obituary for Professor Eberhard Nieschlag

Professor Eberhard Nieschlag, founding father of the International Society of Andrology, has passed away.
Born in Bad Godesberg in 1941, Professor Nieschlag has been one of the most important researchers in andrology worldwide, establishing the section of Experimental Endocrinology in Münster, Germany, where he later founded the section of Reproductive Medicine. Upon his guidance, the Center became one of the most important centers in the world for andrology, and several researchers from all parts of the world have had the honor to be mentored by him. Professor Nieschlag retired from the Center of Reproductive Medicine and Andrology several years ago, but maintained his role as Professor Emeritus at the Center.
Professor Nieschlag has been the first President of ISA, from 1981 to 1985, but has also been president of several other important societies in our field, such as the European Academy of Andrology (1992-1998) and the European Society of Endocrinology (2007-2011). His scientific prowess is shown by his scientific output (over 700 papers indexed on PubMed and several books on different aspects of androogy and reproductive medicine), as well as by the incredible amount of prizes and awards won throughout his career.
The whole andrological community worldwide misses one of its pillars.
