Founded in 1981, ISA now brings together around 40 national and regional member societies, representing 10,000 andrologists worldwide. ISA aims to disseminate knowledge of andrology, and to promote basic and clinical research in andrology. These objectives are achieved through:

- Organization of the International Congress of Andrology
- Support of regional meetings and other activities related to andrology
- Involvement of ISA member societies in compiling international consensus recommendations regarding important aspects of andrology
