2nd Baltic-German Symposium on Andrology and Reproductive Medicine, 1996

Klaipeda, Lithuania - June 7, 1996.

This seminar was inaugurated by Prof. Carl Schirren (Hamburg) and was held for the first time in Tartu, Estonia in 1995. At the 1996 meeting thirty-three delegates from Lithuania and Estonia attended in response to the invitation by the local organizer, Dr. Vytautas Rauba, Head of the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of the Klaipeda City Hospital.

During the one-day meeting, the two speakers, Prof. Schirren and Prof. Haidl (Bonn), discussed many aspects of clinical andrology including basics of clinical examination, semen analysis, sperm function tests, possibilities of medical treatment as well as the modern techniques of assisted reproduction, particularly ICSI. An intensive general discussion at the end of the seminar demonstrated the importance of such symposia in order to increase the understanding among the Baltic colleagues concerning andrology and reproductive medicine. It was agreed to continue these seminars.
